Maria Maya, Special Education

Maria Maya teaches Special Education at Maury. Ms. Maya is originally from Florida, where she received a certificate in Speech and Language Pathology from Florida International University; she earned a master’s degree in Early Childhood Special Education from The George Washington University. Ms. Maya began her career as a preschool teacher with Arlington Public Schools, and joined DCPS as a First Grade Special Education Inclusion Teacher.

Ms. Maya is passionate about teaching and feels fortunate to be part of a student’s learning experience: “I enjoy seeing the progress students make as the year passes by and have fun each and every day that I get to teach!” She also served as the 2016-17 staff mentor and coordinator for the Bravo Team, a group of young student leaders.

When she is not teaching, Ms. Maya likes running, traveling, being outdoors, and eating delicious food.
