VanNessa Duckett, Fourth Grade Teacher

Ms. Jennifer George, Fourth Grade Teacher:  I have taught third grade general education teacher for the past several years and previously I taught Special Education for three years.  I graduated from The George Washington University with a BS in Exercise Science and Psychology.  I then went on to earn my graduate certificate in Special Education from the University of North Carolina Charlotte during my two year in Teach for America. I am currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction. My favorite part about being a teacher is being able to watch my students get excited about their learning.  My mother, grandmother and uncle were all teachers, so I was inspired to do my part to help close the achievement gap in our country. I enjoy hands-on learning, and getting students invested in extensive projects.  Ultimately, I want to be able to positively affect as many students as I can.

Kim Vaugeois, Fifth Grade Teacher:  Ms. Vaugeois, Maury’s new fifth grade teacher, has been teaching in DC Public Schools for over twenty years. Her own children went through the DC Public School System from pre-k through high school, so she has a long affiliation with DCPS both as a parent and as a teacher. She has a master degree in elementary education from The American University and an undergraduate degree in art history and anthropology from The George Washington University. Kim enjoys reading, travel, swimming, hiking, and drawing and painting. Her goal as a teacher is to inspire students to get excited about learning, and help them develop the skills they need to be life-long learners. She loves seeing her students get excited about something they have discovered or a connection they have made. She is especially thrilled to see them find a book they love. Kim works hard creating a classroom climate where all students feel valued and safe. She believes that teaching is at heart knowing your students and using their strengths and interests as a starting point for instruction. Kim loves teaching and getting to know her students and their families, even after many years each day is different and exciting.
