Camelia McCandies | Special Education

Math

Camelia McCandies joined the Maury community in 2021. She teaches Special Education Math across the third through fifth grade levels.

She began her career working in nonprofit administration, transitioning to the role of educator in 2012. Since that time, her experience has focused on teaching and working in special education coordination, in a wide variety of settings with grades K-8. Ms. McCandies is passionate about ensuring all students have access to high-quality instruction, the best ways to utilize data to guide student learning, and all things math related.

Ms. McCandies comes from New Orleans by way of North Carolina. She holds a bachelor’s degree in sociology from University of North Carolina, a master’s degree in Human Service Administration from University of Illinois-Springfield, and a M.Ed. in Educational Policy & Leadership from American University

Outside of school she enjoys exploring the city on bike, roller skating, crocheting, and DIYing home projects.
