VanNessa Duckett teaches Grade 4 at Maury. She has been an elementary classroom teacher for nearly 20 years, with experience ranging from early childhood to Grade 5. Ms. Duckett has taught at Maury for almost 16 years, and she spent three years mentoring new teachers in DC Public Schools and managing a Proving What’s Possible grant at Tyler Elementary.
Ms. Duckett is also the owner of Polite Piggy’s Day Camp, which provides before school and afterschool programming at Maury, Tyler Elementary School, and School Within a School at Goding. Ms. Duckett used her extensive classroom experience to design a program that supports the academic, artistic, physical, social, and emotional needs of children of all ages, from PK3 to the “Big Kids.”
Ms. Duckett is a native Washingtonian and attended DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana, earning a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. She earned a master’s degree in Education Administration from Trinity University in Washington, DC.
In Ms. Duckett’s spare time, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, traveling, cooking, going to the movies, and doing artsy things!
